Acupuncture Alleviates Methamphetamine Addiction

Updated: Jan 28

Methamphetamine is a stimulant drug that can be taken in powder, pill, injection, and even smoked. It increases higher nervous system function and is extremely dangerous and addictive. Over 6% of the population (aged 12 and older) have used methamphetamines at least once. When someone decides to receive help for their methamphetamine addiction, Western medicine often prescribes medications after the initial detoxification. Acupuncture can help to reduce withdrawal symptoms and cravings naturally!

Acupuncture for Addiction

Methamphetamine use stimulates overproduction of dopamine, leading to a "high" that users chase with repeated usage. Acupuncture stimulates the nervous system to regulate hormone production. By controlling release of dopamine and GABA, it is able to suppress cravings associated with addiction as well as that feeling of "high" and the "crash" that results. It also eases feelings of irritability associated with withdrawal.

Acupuncture releases endorphins, the body's "feel-good" chemicals, to help relax and calm the body and mind. In research study, acupuncture reduced self-administration of methamphetamines to 25.43% of the original rate of administration.

Electro-acupuncture, a more modern form of acupuncture where a light electric current is passed into the needles, has also been proven to be effective.

If you or a loved one are fighting with addiction to methamphetamines, acupuncture can help relieve your withdrawal naturally! Call us at (321) 972-2940 to schedule an initial health consultation today.
